Steppin' It Up
Walking With Jesus
I was scrolling through social media when I saw a post from the local gym for a step contest. I like to walk, and I’ve been sadly lacking accountability, so I thought, “Why not?”. So, here I am, four weeks into it, the only one on our team who’s not a gym rat. Did you know there are people in the world who live to exercise? They started on day one, saying things like “Wow, slow week, I only got 120,000 steps in.” I’m not walking for fun anymore; it’s more like enforced movement. It’s mid-week and Saturday check-ins with the team, then walking totals are posted on Sunday for all to see.
In the middle of a leg cramp, it occurred to me that I should be paying just as much attention, if not more, to my spiritual stride. How many steps have I taken today for Jesus? Did I move toward, or away from, the people who need Him the most? Too often I find myself rushing around doing things that have no Heavenly value, a whirlwind of movement that pushes everyone out of its path. A friend stood next to me in a lunch pickup line. She asked if I’d like to sit down with her to eat, but my next errand was heavy on my mind. I declined, and have regretted that moment ever since. I didn’t realize until after the fact how much she needed someone to listen that day.
Kick off your shoes and check your feet. Where have they taken you, and where are they going from here? Maybe you need a little redirection or some accountability. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and to guide your every step.
Psalm 37: 23The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
Ephesians 5:1 NKJV Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:8 NKJV For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.
Ephesians 5:15 NKJV See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Deuteronomy 5:33, which states, "You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess," ESV :-) Someday I'll get there... M
